Andrew Nicholson to Headline EQUITANA Auckland
The
biggest name in the world of eventing will be the superstar
at EQUITANA Auckland.
Andrew Nicholson is heading home,
with his wife Wiggy and children Zach and Lily, for the
first time in years to be part of the inaugural
event.
His recent win at the Badminton Horse Trials has
captured the attention of the world, with many calling it
one of the greatest comebacks ever.
Nicholson suffered
what could have been a career-ending injury in 2015 when he
broke his neck, making his victory at Badminton even more
remarkable. The former world number one pulled off the fairy
tale finish in his 37th completion of the prestigious
event.
EQUITANA Auckland event director Andrew Hansen
says it is an honour to have Nicholson back in New Zealand
for the event.
“This will be his first time back on New
Zealand soil for some years and we are ecstatic to have him
as one of the stars of EQUITANA where we will be showcasing
his brilliance, expertise and experience.”
Nicholson is
lauded as one of the world’s greatest horsemen. He has
competed at six Olympic Games, having won a silver medal and
two bronze medals; and also seven World Equestrian
Games.
And he is really looking forward to coming
home.
"I'm really looking forward to coming back to New
Zealand and being part of the action at EQUITANA," said
Nicholson. "It promises to be a unique and exciting event,
and a great opportunity for me to thank equestrians fans (in
person) for their messages and support."
EQUITANA
Auckland is a sister event to those in Germany and Melbourne
- Germany is considered the largest equine trade event in
the world. It is the first time EQUITANA has come to New
Zealand and will be the most international equestrian event
in Australasia since the 2000 Olympic Games.
The event
promises much, bringing to New Zealand a level of equestrian
entertainment and education like no other . . . right to the
heart of Auckland City. Included will be elite competition
in dressage, showjumping and dressage, among others.
