MRF secure superb results at Canterbury

MRF Tyres New Zealand distributor Palmside NZ Ltd are delighted to announce drivers running their tyres have experienced massive success at the weekend’s Lone Star Rally Canterbury.

The event doubled as round three of both the Brian Green Property Group New Zealand Rally Championship and the Stadium Finance Mainland Rally Series and was held in the most challenging conditions seen this season to date.

In the end, MRF competitors were present on the podium of each of the five classes of the NZRC, including victory in all two-wheel drive classes, as well as the overall podium and three of the six classes in the Mainland series.

While the standout MRF drive came from Deane Buist and Karl Celeste, who took third outright in their Ford Escort and won the Gull Rally Challenge overall and two-wheel drive class. The strong performances continued throughout the field.

Running MRF tyres for the first time on their Ford Fiesta, Max Tregilgas/Glenn Goldring took victory in the NZRC two-wheel drive class, while the open two-wheel drive class was dominated by MRF drivers with Anthony Jones/Tanya Gwynne’s Ford Escort leading home Marcus van Klink/Dave Neill’s Mazda RX8. The two-wheel drive clean sweep was completed by Tony Gosling/Blair Read, who took victory in the historic class in their Ford Escort.

Four-wheel drive cars also performed well on MRF tyres, with Josh Marston/Andrew Graves claiming fourth overall and third in the NZRC four-wheel drive class in their Holden Barina AP4+, while the similar car of Greg Murphy/Mark Leonard were able to set top three stage times in the unique challenge of night stages.

Mainland Rally Series competitors also benefited from the MRF grip, with class wins for Jono Taylor/Kyle Robertson (Class A), Steve Cattermole/Sharisse Guckert (Class B) and Buist/Celeste (Class C) taking away the trophies.

“The tyres worked really, really well in what were some massively tricky conditions across a variety of different vehicles, which is really pleasing for us,” says Palmside NZ Ltd’s Deane Buist. “We’d like to thank everyone who has bought our tyres and are obviously very proud of the performances we have seen from each of the competitors running our tyres.”
