Entries Now Open for Zonta Ashburton Female Art Awards 2018

The Ashburton Art Gallery in partnership with the Zonta Club of Ashburton are welcoming entries to the Zonta Ashburton Female Art Award 2018 (ZAFAA18). Now in its second year, the award is open to all Canterbury-based emerging and mid-career female artists and exists to acknowledge excellence in fine arts and assist in the development of growing careers.

The 2018 Premier Award recipient will not only win a cash prize but also the special opportunity to hold a solo exhibition at the Gallery in the following year. The winner will benefit greatly from a fully curated and professionally installed exhibition which will advance their public profile and increase their exhibition history. Gallery curator Shirin Khosraviani says “there is much more than money to be gained from award exhibitions such as ZAFAA. The winner will have the incredible opportunity to develop a new body of work for public exhibition and have the support of a passionate institution at their side.”

Together with the Premier Award is a Young Generation Award for female artists between the ages of 16 and 20. This cash award will acknowledge outstanding potential in visual art with the aim to encourage further creative endeavours, an outcome well suited to Zonta – a global organisation of women working together to advance the status of women worldwide.

Zontians Viv Williams and Elizabeth Stuckey say “The Zonta Club of Ashburton are thrilled to be supporting contemporary female artists in such a direct and meaningful way and are enthusiastic about their continuing involvement in the second year of its running.”

Entries will be shortlisted by a panel of judges comprised of three art sector professionals. The awards will be announced by the judges on the opening night on 2nd March 2018.

ZAFAA18 entry forms are now available through the Gallery’s website, www.ashburtonartgallery.org.nz

Entries close Sunday 12 November 2017.
