Suduko Celebrated with International Day of Recognition
Popular Puzzle Celebrated with International Day of Recognition
September 9th, a date shared with some of
history’s most stand-out events, will once again play host
to one of the hottest days on the puzzling calendar –
International Sudoku Day.
Launched by the World Puzzle Federation in 2013, September 9th is the one day each year where the simple, yet skilful elegance of the Sudoku puzzle is celebrated. The date (9/9), symbolic within Sudoku, was chosen to reflect the 9x9 grid pattern found within each puzzle and the obvious symmetry within each grid.
The widescale puzzling phenomenon of the Sudoku swept the world in the early 2000’s after its inclusion in English newspaper, The Times, as a regular feature. While already an established puzzle in mainstream Japanese publications at this time, and an up and coming favourite in the American market, The United Kingdom; Australia and New Zealand were in comparison, surprisingly slow adopters of the trend.
Puzzler Media launched the UKs first Sudoku product to market in 2005 and has continued to be the market leader in Sudoku products within both the UK and Australasia ever since. The local Puzzler range, including Sudoku, Killer Sudoku, Simply Sudoku and Sudoku One-A-Day are available in selected newsagents; service stations and supermarkets nationwide.
