Rhydian Thomas reading Milk Island aloud on election day

Rhydian Thomas reading entire novel Milk Island aloud on election day over eight hours

WHAT:

Lawrence & Gibson author Rhydian Thomas will be reading his entire debut novel, Milk Island, aloud at the Adam Art Gallery in Wellington and online via livestream on Election Day 2017.

Milk Island is a satirical black comedy set in New Zealand in 2023 about the lives of three characters on the eponymous public-private-partnership island, where a record-high prison muster is being put to work in the private dairying prisons of the former South Island, and only Milky Moo, the nation’s favourite genetically enhanced super-cow, seems to be safe.

WHERE:

Online via livestream at milkisland.co.nz from 9am and in person at the Adam Art Gallery (Victoria University, Kelburn Parade, Wellington) from its opening at 11am, ending at 5pm.

WHEN:

Saturday 23rd September, 9am-5pm

WHY:

To mark election day as a one-off event as part of the Tomorrow People exhibition at the Adam Art Gallery, Rhydian will perform the entirety of the novel as a work of endurance that highlights the critical role of art in politics and celebrates a true engagement between the two.

Milk Island was released in June 2017 and is currently in its third print run. If you haven’t received a review copy, please reply and L&G can provide one. The author is available for comment.

Rhydian Thomas is an author and musician based in Wellington. His writing has appeared in Sport, The Spinoff, The Pantograph Punch, Turbine and Hue & Cry. He has released music with The Body Lyre and Strangers.
