Nanogirl Making Live Science Affordable with NZ Tour

Nanogirl Making Live Science Affordable for as Many People as Possible with Upcoming New Zealand Tour

Nanogirl believes that science is for everyone, and that it is important for access to science education and entertainment to be affordable. Recent media reports on international scientists touring New Zealand charging as much as $215.00 per seat have brought considerable attention to this issue.

Three key strategies announced by Nanogirl Labs today are designed specifically to ensure that this year’s Nanogirl Live! tour of New Zealand – Nanogirl Live! in Engineering Magic - is accessible to as many people as possible.

1. Affordable Pricing
Tickets for Nanogirl Live! in Engineering Magic are available from just $25, with no additional charge for adult guests, thanks to the support of the Nanogirl Live! sponsors Spark New Zealand, The MacDiarmid Institute, The University of Auckland Faculty of Engineering, Beca and IPENZ.

Additionally, in every venue the tour visits, a number of premium ‘A Reserve’ seats have been made available at just $15.00 (usually $40). These tickets, intended for those who could perhaps not otherwise afford to attend, can be accessed using the special promotional code ‘Science4All’ when purchasing.

2. Pay-It-Forward Tickets – a brand new initiative
No matter how carefully priced the tickets, live theatre remains an unaffordable luxury for many. In a innovative new approach, Nanogirl Labs is offering ‘Pay-It-Forward’ tickets, allowing customers to buy a ticket which will then be gifted to someone who would otherwise not have the opportunity to attend. Pay-It-Forward tickets can be purchased separately, or added to a purchaser’s own order.

Customers who choose to take part will enable a young New Zealander to engage with science and engineering, live on stage. Research conducted in association with the University of Auckland has proven the impact of the Nanogirl Live! performances as an educational initiative – a Pay-It-Forward ticket could genuinely change a life.

Already more than 150 ‘Pay-It-Forward’ seats have been purchased, with a Charitable Trust choosing to buy a number of seats to support their local community in Gisborne.

3. Visiting the Regions
Touring New Zealand is expensive, but making science and engineering accessible for all means getting the tour close to as many people as possible. This year’s tour will visit 12 centres around New Zealand (up from 7 last year), with the additional centres including Blenheim, Gisborne and Invercargill.

“You can’t be what you can’t see!”, says Nanogirl Labs’ Co-Founder and Director, Dr Michelle Dickinson MNZM. “That’s why we’re bringing Nanogirl Live! to towns right across the country, not just touring the major centres – we want to engage as many young New Zealanders as we can in the magic of science and engineering.”

Nanogirl Labs Ltd Co-Founder & Managing Director, Joe Davis, says “Nanogirl Labs exists to inspire, educate and empower as many people as possible. These strategies – making sure Nanogirl’s live tour is accessible to as many people as we possibly can – are critical to that mission. The team have worked incredibly hard to deliver the Pay-It-Forward programme, and I’m confident that it’s an innovation that will make a real difference to young people around New Zealand.”

The 2017 Nanogirl Live! tour of New Zealand – Nanogirl Live! in Engineering Magic - runs from November 6th (Invercargill) through to December 12th(Tauranga). A full tour schedule is available at
