Caddies required for ISPS Handa New Zealand Open

Budding young golfers or those looking for a special experience might be interested in a role as a caddy for the ISPS Handa New Zealand Open in Queenstown.

Organisers are looking for 120 caddies for the Championship to be staged at Millbrook Resort and The Hills from 1-4 March, to caddy for the professionals as well as some of the amateur players.

Last year one such young caddy ended up on the bag of Australian Brad Kennedy, who finished runner-up to Michael Hendry.

A Wellington golfer caddied for Australian Jordan Zunic in the 2015 Open, and he ended up winning the tournament, and presenting the caddy an incredible experience.

The Championship will attract 132 professionals and their amateur partners playing at Millbrook Resort and The Hills on Thursday 1 March, and then swapping courses for the second round on Friday. There is a cut after the second round for the top 60 professionals plus ties and a Pro-Am cut for the top 30 amateurs who play the final two rounds at Millbrook Resort.

“If a golfer is keen, then this offers a special experience inside the ropes, and it is the best way to learn about the game,” said the Open Caddymaster, Andrew Whiley.

Those interested in caddying at the Open need to pre-register online by 15 February and be onsite at Millbrook Resort by 10am on Wednesday 28 February at the latest.

“Most of the caddy jobs will be pre-assigned before they arrive at the course, with preference given to those who can be there on Monday 26 or Tuesday 27 February.

“It would suit a serious or social golfer with a good level of fitness to carry the golf bag around both courses, but the experience is definitely worthwhile.”

There is a $39 cost to register, with all caddies to receive an official ISPS Handa New Zealand Open golf shirt and cap, and the duties earn around $80 per round.

Those interested should register online at www.nzopen.co.nz and click on the Volunteers tab for the Caddy Registration page.
