Finding The Next Commonwealth Games Stars - Sent On Behalf Of Squash NZ

It’s a sport of fitness and precision….and squash is on a high in New Zealand thanks to the medal haul of three gold and one bronze at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games earlier this year with Joelle King the New Zealand teams top athlete.

King is also ranked No.5 in the world and hugely respected in her sport both at home and around the globe. Kiwi men’s No.1 Paul Coll is currently ranked 8th and the extreme fitness of the West Coaster is well known.

But who is next? Who is coming through the ranks and wanting to challenge both King and Coll for the future?

To provide encouragement and a top environment to train and play their sport the team at Squash XL in Auckland is hosting four PSA (Professional Squash Association) Satellite tournaments in December and February this year.

With Commonwealth Games team member Lance Beddoes and Squash XL owner, John Duggan heading up these tournaments there’s bound to be plenty of top local talent and competitors wanting to play on the only permanent glass squash court in New Zealand.

The tournaments will be held December 3-6 and 10-13, 2018, February 11-14 and 18-21, 2019 at Squash XL in Avondale, Auckland. All tournaments are worth US$1,000, but the primary purpose is for players to gain better experience and world ranking points

“Te series gives our young PSA pros the chance to gain world ranking points and valuable playing experience at a time of year lacking suitable events. We are excited to run these events for the next generation of squash stars,” said Duggan

Alongside the satellite tournaments they will run elite Juniors events (top 16 boys and top 8 girls) which will play for the largest junior prizemoney offered in New Zealand.
