Performing Arts Academy Brings Training And Talented Tutors
Performing Arts Academy Brings Training And Talented
Tutors to Takapuna
APAA is
a brand new performing arts academy, based in Takapuna,
providing first-class musical theatre training for 7-21 year
olds. Their creative team are amongst the best in New
Zealand and include John Callen, Jodie Dorday, Wendy Doyle,
Alexandra McKellar, Mark Bradley and Gemma Boswell. In
addition, their students will perform in a fully licensed
musical production at the ASB Waterfront Theatre, twice a
year.
This is a dream come true for Co-Founders, Alan Brash and Lesley Fifield, of the Broadway Dreams Foundation NZ. Their goal is to offer Auckland’s performing arts students a triple-threat training ground where they can develop and strengthen their existing skills, learn new techniques, and ultimately perform in a fully-licensed musical production. As a result of the programme, APAA students will grow both as performers and as individuals and their ‘talent will take flight!’
Alan Brash (Co-Founder) said “There are a number of great musical theatre organisations in Auckland. However, with our focus on training, and the wealth of experience our team brings to the programme, we believe we can offer our young students something unique. They’ll be learning from some of the best in the business – experienced professionals who are talented and knowledgeable, but also caring and nurturing.”
Lesley Fifield (Co-Founder) said “Training was a key factor when establishing APAA. However, we also recognise that performing arts students want to perform. So the show is an important component of our programme. By securing the ASB Waterfront Theatre for our two annual productions, we can offer our students a professional environment, on an international stage, on which to perform.”
APAA offers weekly training in singing, dancing, acting, and performance skills, as well as rehearsals for two fully-produced licensed musical productions annually.
Rehearsals start on Saturday 9 February and culminate with their first production, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, on 21 - 23 June 2019, at the ASB Waterfront Theatre.
