Side-splitting musical hits Dunedin
Impulse Theatre’s hit improvised musical is heading to
the Dunedin Fringe Festival.
Off Book: The Musical debuted in Christchurch in August 2018, and has been an audience favourite ever since.
“It's been a real thrill to present Off Book: The Musical,” says artistic director Jonathan Briden. “The show is so much fun. The characters can break into song at any moment, and we get to explore the full range of human experience from the simplicity of daily life to the most powerful of emotional experiences.”
The show is inspired by a randomly selected career, and brought to life by an array of delightful characters created in the moment by Impulse Theatre’s cast of veteran improvisers.
Live music is crafted on the fly by Michael Bell – prominent Christchurch musician and entrepreneur.
“I love cheesy music, I love deadpan kiwis, and I love long-form improv, so basically playing for this show is heaven for me,” says Michael, who is musical director for the show.
Off Book: The Musical is playing at the New Athenaeum Theatre at 6pm for three nights: Thursday 28 March, Friday 29 March, and Saturday 30 March. Tickets start at $10.
