The BIG Art Auction: Art Meets Heart In Rangiora

North Canterbury’s newest night out is here — and you’re invited! The BIG Art Auction, a sparkling fundraising event for Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Canterbury, takes place on Friday 26 September. Dress up, celebrate local creativity, and bid to help change young lives.

For one night only, Rangiora Borough School Hall will transform into a buzzing gallery and auction room as the Rangiora Art Society unveils its Spring Exhibition with an exclusive Opening Night celebration. Guests will enjoy a first look at more than 700 original artworks from over 70 local artists, alongside live and silent auctions, live music, complimentary drinks and canapés, raffles, spot prizes, and the chance to meet the artists.

The highlight of the evening is The BIG Art Auction itself, featuring donated works from local artists. Every winning bid will help change young lives, with proceeds donated to Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Canterbury — a charity that matches local tamariki and rangatahi with trusted adult mentors for one-on-one support.

“Every ticket and every bid supports young people to unlock their potential by being matched with a mentor who shows up, believes in them, and makes a lasting difference. It’s a night where art really does change lives.” says Programme Manager Ellie Le Gros.

For local painter and artist Greg Anderson, the cause is deeply personal: “When I was a young single dad, my daughter had a mentor through Big Brothers Big Sisters. It meant I could keep being a dad and go back to University. Now I’m proud to give back through my art — because I know first-hand the impact mentoring can have.”

Rangiora Art Society Treasurer Julie Hassall says the collaboration is a perfect fit: “Our members are thrilled to showcase their work while supporting a programme that makes such a difference in young people’s lives. It’s going to be a special night where art lovers can take home something truly meaningful.”

The evening will be hosted by rugby league legend and Big Brothers Big Sisters Patron, Frank Endacott, with the gavel in hand of local auctioneer Nathan Gilbert of Harcourts Four Seasons Realty.

This is a night out for everyone — whether you love art, want to support local kids, are a community-minded election candidate, or just enjoy getting glammed up. Tickets are strictly limited — grab yours now and be part of The BIG Art Auction, where art meets heart.
