Acclaimed Prime Minister Film Set For Nationwide Release
Following its sell-out screenings at the New Zealand International Film Festival, the Sundance Audience Award-winning documentary feature Prime Minister will launch in cinemas nationwide on Thursday, 25 September.

Prime Minister tells the story of Rt Hon Dame Jacinda Ardern, New Zealand’s 40th Prime Minister, as she led her nation through unprecedented challenges, implemented bold policies, and became only the second leader in history to give birth while in office - all while championing an inclusive and empathetic leadership style that reshaped global expectations of political leadership.
During her time in office, Dame Jacinda confronted significant crises, including a live streamed domestic terror attack targeting New Zealand’s Muslim community, a volcanic eruption, and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Directed by award-winning filmmakers Lindsay Utz and Michelle Walshe (Chasing Great), Prime Minister follows Dame Jacinda over seven years at the pinnacle of New Zealand politics, featuring intimate home footage shot by her husband, Clarke Gayford, offering a rare and personal insight into both her administration and private life.
Michelle Walshe and Lindsay Utz say: “Our goal was to give audiences an intimate, front-row seat to the extraordinary demands of leading a country — made even more remarkable as Jacinda navigated some of New Zealand’s most significant crises while balancing the realities of new motherhood. Her approach to leadership during times of immense pressure and uncertainty offers a powerful reminder of what’s possible when leaders prioritise people.”
Prime Minister tickets are on sale now with preview screenings at selected cinemas from Friday 19th September – Sunday 21st September — check with your local cinema for details.
