Bring Back Stubbies – Supporting Kiwi Kids With Mentors, Big Brothers Big Sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters New Zealand (BBBSNZ) is calling on Kiwis to get behind our Bring Back Stubbies campaign this September 26. A fun, light-hearted promotion with a serious purpose: helping more young people find the steady guidance of a trusted mentor.
Thanks to the generous support of our “Mean Az” major campaign sponsors – Pulse Energy (backing us for a second year) and newcomer Pioneer Energy – along with our “Sweet Az” sponsor, Charlie’s Drinks, we’re raising vital awareness and funds to help more young people find a mentor who makes a lasting difference and unlocks the potential of our rangatahi.
Right now, around 400 young people across Aotearoa are waiting for a mentor. Many are waiting longer than they should, largely due to a shortage of male volunteers, though other factors like location and compatibility also play a role.
“Being a mentor isn’t about being a superhero – it’s about being a reliable, caring friend,” says Drew Ewan, CEO, Big Brothers Big Sisters NZ. “Our mentors are carefully vetted, fully trained, and continuously supported to ensure the safety and wellbeing of every young person. That’s what makes our programme trusted worldwide.”
The Bring Back Stubbies campaign invites Kiwis to embrace the iconic short-shorts with a sense of humour while standing behind an important cause. Every laugh, share, and donation helps bring us closer to matching more young people with the right mentor.
Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring changes lives – for the young person and the volunteer. Together, with the help of our community and sponsors, we can ensure no child has to wait too long for a trusted friend.
BBBSNZ would also like to thank Naylor Love for their ongoing support by being our National Principal Sponsor. Naylor Love have been by our side for nearly 5 years, and we can’t do this mahi without them.
