Comments from Organisers and Schools
CNI 1st XV Rugby Competition Administrator Blair Rogers highlighted the significance of the competition’s standing and growth, stating: “The CNI competition remains one of the most important development pathways for 1st XV rugby players in New Zealand. The recent All Blacks European tour had 11 All Blacks with CNI heritage and we know they still have a strong interest in the competition and their School’s progresss. The 2026 draw reflects our commitment to providing a balanced, competitive, and competently run competition.”
Justin Lock – Head of Rugby at Feilding High School added: “Our players look forward to this competition every year. The level of rugby is exceptional, and the experience they gain—both on and off the field—is invaluable.”
Competition Outlook
The 2026 season is expected to feature strong performances across the competition as there are several keenly contested derby matches, inter-provincial grudge matches to be played, and no doubt there will be significant interest in the progress of the expansion side Matamata College during the season.
With the draw now confirmed, families and friends can now plan out the season ahead as they look to support their team through the 2026 season.
