Auckland Sides Set For Christchurch Rematches In Eden Park Doubleheader
Auckland’s Super Smash campaign returns home on Wednesday 14 January, with a doubleheader at Eden Park’s Kennards Hire Community Oval featuring the Auckland ACES against the Kings at 12.40pm, followed by the Auckland HEARTS taking on the Magicians at 4.50pm.
The opening match sees the ACES host the Kings in a rematch of their Christchurch encounter from the weekend. While the result did not go Auckland’s way, there were plenty of positives to take from the performance, highlighted by a Super Smash record fifth wicket partnership between Bevon Jacobs and Cam Fletcher.
The pair combined for an unbeaten stand, with Jacobs finishing on 88 not out and Fletcher contributing 80 not out, setting a new competition record and nearly dragging the ACES to an unlikely victory.
The ACES come into the fixture with confidence after a five wicket win over the Volts yesterday, chasing down their target with composure. Bevon Jacobs once again led the way with the bat, bringing up his fifth consecutive Super Smash half century with an unbeaten 78 off 51 balls, continuing a remarkable run of form.
The afternoon fixture features the HEARTS against the Magicians, also a rematch from Christchurch, where the Auckland side claimed a convincing 80 run win. That performance showcased the HEARTS’ depth and balance, as they controlled the contest with both bat and ball.
The HEARTS arrive back in Auckland after a loss to the Sparks in Dunedin yesterday, despite strong contributions across the side. Brooke Halliday and Izzy Gaze both posted half centuries, while Josie Penfold led the bowling effort with figures of 4 for 29, keeping the HEARTS competitive throughout.
Live coverage of the ACES v Kings match begins at 12.40pm on TVNZ+ and DUKE, followed by the HEARTS v Magicians clash at 4.50pm.
