The Rocking Rainbows: More Than Just A Band
The Rocking Rainbows is a Wellington-based band of musicians proudly embracing their disabilities. They will perform at the Newtown Community Centre this March as part of the 2026 NZ Fringe Festival.
Known for their dynamic stage presence and genre-blending sound, the band challenges expectations of who belongs on stage. Their work centers lived experience, visibility and creative expression, contributing to the diverse programme of Aotearoa’s largest open-access arts festival. They are also programmed to play at the Newtown Festival happening the week after.
A previous Art Murmurs review captured their range and impact: “The band crossed genres easily, from rock and Manu-Chao-esque reggae to a haunting Andean folk piece.” It continued, “The real beauty of The Rocking Rainbows, however, was the energy they created and shared.”
Formed through Evaro, a Cuba Street service supporting adults with disabilities, The Rocking Rainbows have built a strong local following through community performances and past Fringe appearances. Their upcoming show continues their commitment to representation and access in the arts.
