Ruthe Records Another Fast Mile: Runs 3:52 Mile In USA
Sam Ruthe ran another rapid mile time at the Sound Running Invite at the JDL Fast Track in North Carolina, USA. Ruthe clocked a 3:52.46 to finish 7th in the elite field. Olympic and World Champion, Cole Hocker won the race in an American record of 3:45.94.
Ruthe encountered the most competative field of his career, with the 16-year-old proving once again that he is a global phenom. Ruthe was shy of the Athletics NZ Commonwealth Games “B Performance Standard” of 3:51.80.
Ruthe next races in New Zealand on the 7th of March at Track Stars - part of the New Zealand Track and Field Championships. Tickets are free for the event at the Trusts Arena, Auckland. Fans can watch live and free on TVNZ 1 or TVNZ+.
Geordie Beamish continued the start of his indoor season, finishing just over 3 seconds off of his own New Zealand record in the 3000m. His time of 7:39.79 saw him finish in 7th. Beamish holds the New Zealand record for the distance at 7:36.22 from 2023.
Meanwhile overnight in Australia, Zoe Hobbs claimed vidctory in over 100m at the Perth Track Classic. Hobbs clocked a wind-aided 11.07 (+2.2) over Austrlian’s Ebony lane (11.16) and Charlotte Ehioghae (11.22). Scarlett Robb ran a personal best 4:17.10 over 1500m. The 17-year-old finished 7th in the elite women’s field.
