ACES Look To Close Ford Trophy Campaign Strongly In Queenstown
The Auckland ACES travel to Sir John Davies Oval in Queenstown tomorrow for their final white ball outing of the summer, taking on the Volts in a Ford Trophy clash with first ball at 10:30am on Tuesday 17 February.
With the side preparing to transition into Plunket Shield cricket, the match presents an opportunity to build momentum and finish the limited overs campaign on a positive note after a second half of the season that has not yielded the results Auckland were chasing.
Their most recent fixture, a Round 9 meeting with Northern Districts in Whangārei, was abandoned after just two deliveries, denying both sides a meaningful contest. However, the brief appearance still produced a moment of encouragement for the ACES.
Returning from injury, Simon Keene took the new ball and struck immediately, dismissing Super Smash Player of the Tournament Katene Clarke with his second delivery before the rain arrived. The early breakthrough offered a timely reminder of the energy and impact Keene brings back into the attack.
Auckland will now look to translate that spark into a full performance in Queenstown, using the final one day match as a launching pad into the red ball phase of the season.
