Fee Freeze...Sweet as!
Auckland University Students’ Association President, Kane Stanford is delighted today to hear news that Auckland University Council voted to accept the government ‘fee freeze’ offer.
“This is great news for students”, said Mr Stanford, ” I am stoked.... I did not think that the Council would have voted this way but they obviously felt pressure as a result of recent announcements by other universities.”
“I am concerned about the projected shortfall of $4 million that the University will face in accepting the offer,” said Mr Stanford.
“With roughly 80% of the university’s costs being people costs; this may force the university to look at cutting the costs of staffing which will obviously be to the determent of the quality of education that Auckland University students recieve.”
"But overall I think that students will be rapt with this decision. This certainly puts even more pressure on the other universities to accept the offer and we hope that they all follow suit,” concluded Mr Stanford.
