"Show Us The Money" Required For 'Shaping The Strategy'

The Aotearoa Tertiary Students Association (ATSA) applauds TEAC for its emphasis on quality and improved access to tertiary education. "At last we have a clear workable strategy which aims to meet the needs of real people rather than blind economic dogma" stated ATSA President Keith Clark.

ATSA believes that this report strongly signals to government that increased public funding is needed for the tertiary sector. "It is clear that commission members have not avoided the fact that additional financial resources must be dedicated to tertiary education if the government, and all New Zealanders, are serious about the future social and economic development of the country" stated Clark.

Overall, ATSA remains generally happy with the direction of TEAC. "ATSA expects the government to provide the resources, and TEC to deliver clear directions to institutions to ensure the strategies are delivered. This includes ensuring that these institutions are both governed and managed properly. ATSA will be examining this report carefully and looks forward to the final report from TEAC" Clark concluded.
