UCOL Will Be Good For Wanganui Students

The announcement today that UCOL will provide public tertiary education in Wanganui has been welcomed by the Aotearoa Tertiary Students’ Association (ATSA) President Keith Clark. “This should settle student issues and allow students to move forward to 2002 with confidence.”

In its submission, ATSA argued that the central mechanism to protect the educational interests of the Wanganui community was representation on the institution’s council.

“Confirmation that Wanganui students and community will gain representation on the council bodes well for the protection and enhancement of tertiary education in the region,” stated Clark.

“UCOL have sound leadership in Council Chair Waana Davis and CEO Paul McElroy,” advised Clark. “The Wanganui Community Advisory Council will have a key role in helping guide the UCOL leadership,” he said.

“However, the Wanganui Community Charter will be pivotal in guiding UCOL’s delivery of education in the region.” Wanganui student and community interests need to focus on this area closely.
