ATSA Confirms Release of Tertiary Education 'Issues & Solutions' Paper

The Aotearoa Tertiary Students' Association (ATSA) confirmed today that all parties contesting this month's General Election have received copies of the ATSA Position Paper 'Tertiary Education in Aotearoa: Issues and Solutions'.

"Because the public tertiary education system has suffered over a decade of under funding, it is very easy to identify the problems in the sector," ATSA President Julie Pettett said today. "Our 'Issues and Solutions' paper is designed to move the debate from pointless argument into an arena where students, staff, institutions and politicians can address the matter in a more solution focused way ."

ATSA's position paper proposes a range of steps. Each is relatively small in impact, but taken together, they would lead to the sustainable provision of free tertiary education to any citizen or permanent resident who has the desire to take up the opportunity. "While our focus will always remain on achieving fee-free education and a Universal Student Allowance, we recognise that neither will happen overnight,' Pettett said. "The solution to the problem is agreement on a set of real and practical steps that will lead to their achievable delivery."
