The State Services Commissioner, Michael Wintringham, said today that Professor Allan Fels will be an outstanding appointment as the Foundation Dean of the Australia and New Zealand School of Government.
Professor Fels is currently the Chairman of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. He has been the Chairman of the former Trade Practices Commission, the Prices Surveillance Authority, and the Director of the Graduate School of Management at Monash University.
"The appointment of someone of the calibre of Professor Fels will be an important step in ensuring the success of this new graduate school for public servants" Mr Wintringham said.
"We are well advanced in developing proposals for the replacement of the senior executive service," he said.
Mr Wintringham said "This new school will help develop the skills of senior executives in a trans-Tasman market of public servants".
The Australia and New Zealand School of Government is being established as a multi-campus partnership between Australia and New Zealand Governments, universities and business schools to provide specialised programmes for emerging public sector leaders. Twenty New Zealand public servants will join the first Masters in Public Administration degree programme in May next year.
