National Maori Tertiary Scholarships Awarded
Minister Awards National Maori Tertiary Leadership Scholarships Today
The Honorable Parekura Horomia will present five scholarships on behalf of the Aotearoa Tertiary Students’ Association (ATSA), Te Roopu Tautoko, and Kawau Limited at Te Poho O Rawiri Marae as part of Te Hui Tauira in Gisborne this evening.
“These scholarships are to recognise and support Maori Tertiary students who, have actively contributed to the welfare and support of fellow students and have been recognised by their peers as present/future leaders for Maori,” said Rick Hapeta, chair of Te Roopu Tautoko.
“These recipients have gone well above and beyond just helping out a classmate,” says Hapeta.
“It is appropriate that the Honorable Parekura Horomia as one of our current leaders presents these awards to our future leaders,” said Hapeta, “It builds on the spirit of whakawhanaungatanga that was behind these awards and is the purpose of Te Hui Tauira this weekend.”
“It is a positive
way to begin a weekend that is shaping up to be a huge boost
for Maori student support within education,”
