Universities Support Secondary Futures Project

New Zealand universities have pledged their support for the Secondary Futures Project which aims at charting the course of secondary education in this country into the future.

Professor Roger Field, chair of the Committee on University Academic Programmes CUAP), says universities have a substantial interest in the performance of the secondary schools sector and how that performance impacts on the transition to university study.

“Given the importance of the secondary sector to the universities, CUAP and its parent body, the NZ Vice-Chancellors’ Committee, fully support this initiative to take a long-term view of the future form of the secondary school.

“University representatives look forward to participating in, and informing, the process involved. Today’s project launch marks the first step towards achieving the best possible secondary student outcomes 20 years from now. It is indeed an ambitious project but one that is crucial to not only the universities but also the country as a whole.”
