IFP Programme has real benefits for Students

Hastings Intermediate has been the Pilot School for the Pipfruit IFP (Integrated Fruit Production) education programme.

Hastings Intermediate is Hawke’s Bay’s first environmental school and about 100 year seven and eight students have been involved in the programme which will be incorporated into the school’s curriculum for 2004.

The programme enables our students to actively participate in “learning from outside of the classroom” and linking it with what is learnt “within the classroom”.

Our November ERO Report supports the initiatives taken by Hastings Intermediate with Pipfruit Growers of New Zealand, as actively promoting opportunities for students to develop an extensive range of life skills including citizenship and responsibility for the environment.

The pilot further supports and engages students in acquiring skills that addresses issues and challenges them to find real solutions to real problems.

Since the initial approach for being involved in the pilot, the school has fully supported the programme but more importantly the teachers and students see real benefit in it as an education programme built within the curriculum.
