Smokefree Website Launched for Schools
A new Smokefree website has been developed to assist schools and Kura with the changes to the Smoke-free Environments Act 1990. From 1 January 2004, all schools and Kura must be 100 percent Smokefree at all times, grounds and building included, 24 hours, 7 days a week.
The website was developed not only to assist schools and Kura with the more difficult aspects of achieving compliance with the Act, but also to encourage and support schools and Kura to develop a comprehensive approach to creating a Smokefree culture within their school. The website includes assistance for managing smoking, curriculum support with downloadable resources and links to many other tobacco control websites.
Schools and Kura are invited to visit the new website and enter a competition to win Smokefree branded merchandise for their schools. The address is www.smokefreeschools.co.nz
