From Councillor Dick Quax
During a meeting of the Manukau City Council Transport Committee to discuss a school pedestrian crossing for Sir Edmund Hilary Collegiate the mayor Sir Barry Curtis made the startling claim that pupils attending MacLeans College in Bucklands Beach drove themselves to school in BMWs and Mercedes Benz.
A member of the committee Councillor Dick Quax was distressed that the mayor would make such a blatantly false comment.
It is well known that MacLeans have a very strict policy prohibiting pupils driving cars to school according to Cr Quax.
"Sir Barry should know this he lives in the area."
"Taking cheap shots at a school that has a remarkable record both academically and on the sports field is unacceptable. All schools in Manukau deserve the support of city leaders not be subjected to the false claims and derision of its leading citizen."
