Monitoring and Marking Update

The exams are over. The finals exams, Scholarship Mathematics with Calculus, German and Media Studies, were held on Saturday.

More than 135 thousand secondary school students have attended 114 different exam sessions at 409 exam centres since Monday 14 November.

The final week of Scholarship exams ran smoothly except for a few Wellington students who got stuck in traffic after a crash on the motorway on Tuesday morning on the way to their English exam.

"This was one of those rare instances when schools found a valuable use for students' cell phones. The schools were able to contact the stranded students and advise them to go to the nearest school to sit the exams," says Karen Sewell.

Nearly 40 percent of NCEA levels 1, 2 and 3 exams have now been marked.

Marking will be completed within the next two weeks, and results will be distributed to students between 26 and 28 January.

"The monitoring and marking process is proceeding as expected. The additional monitoring processes in place this year enable the panel leaders, markers and the Qualifications Authority to identify any results which are unexpected, and investigate possible reasons. This process has resulted in the remarking of 12 standards to date.
