Churton Park School Area Report Delayed

Media Statement

Churton Park School Area Report delayed till end of July

The Area Report into schooling in Churton Park, which was requested by the Minister of Education several months ago in response to community concerns, has now been deferred until the end of July.

"The Minister wrote to us recently and confirmed that he was now expecting the Area Report to be completed by the end of July said the Convenor of the Campaign for Local Schooling and City Council candidate - Roger Ellis.

"Our goal is to ensure that children can attend their local school and that any suggestion that primary school children could be bussed to another school on the other side of the motorway is dropped" said Mr Ellis.

"We are making good progress. The Minister indicated that there would be no changes to school zoning until after the Area Report has been completed and he has had an opportunity to consider it. He also indicated that changes at the Johnsonville School would allow an overlap in the enrolment scheme so that there is access to local schools for all students in the area" said Mr Ellis.

"Classroom capacity at local schools needs to be increased to cope with growth in enrolments. We are hopeful that the Area Report will be a prelude to increased investment in the education infrastructure for the northern suburbs" said Mr Ellis.
