NZ Chemistry Olympiad Team Returns with Medals
The 2007 New Zealand Chemistry Olympiad team returned home today from the 39th International Chemistry Olympiad held in Moscow on 15-24 July.
They were awarded 2 silver medals and 2 bronze medals, the same as Australia and the United Kingdom. On a medal basis this placed them equal thirteenth out of sixty five countries.
Silver medals were won by:
Jonathan Lin (Auckland Grammar
School)
Chuan-Zheng Lee (Mount Roskill Grammar
School).
Bronze medals were won by:
Thomas Wong
(Auckland Grammar School)
Michael Plunkett (Westlake
Boys' High School).
The team were accompanied by Dr Suzanne Boniface (Victoria University of Wellington) and Dr David Salter (University of Auckland).
Last week was not the end of competitions for Thomas Wong - he will be competing on Friday night as a member of Contrastz in the national final of the New Zealand Community Trust Chamber Music Contest.
