AUT becomes NZ's first ThinkPad University

AUT and Lenovo to offer students laptop scholarships

AUT becomes New Zealand’s first ThinkPad University

25 September 2007, AUCKLAND — Lenovo and AUT University today announced a new scholarship that will provide high-achieving academic performers with ThinkPad notebook computers, increasing individual mobility and productivity in their final years of study.

The agreement makes AUT the first Lenovo ‘ThinkPad University’ in New Zealand, one of just two such institutions in the Asia Pacific region. The scholarship will enable up to 70 students studying at Masters and PhD level to receive a new Lenovo ThinkPad notebook computer, business software and support.

“AUT recognises the academic and financial pressure faced by students, and looks forward to lightening the load for high-achieving post-graduate students,” says Liz Gosling, AUT Director of IT Services.

“Doctorate and Masters students need mobility and flexibility when studying. AUT has a strong commitment to ensuring our graduates hit the ground running when they leave AUT: that they are information-literate and can use technology effectively.”

“Graduate students invest heavily in their education and this scholarship will relieve them of the cost of a business quality laptop,” she says.
Lenovo is pleased to support AUT in providing its award-winning ThinkPads to New Zealand’s future leaders who have shown commitment and excellence at a high level of study.

“Senior students have the same mobility and technology needs as a business executive, but usually without the financial means to acquire it,” says Dean Butchers, Country General Manager for Lenovo New Zealand.

“Many of AUT’s most qualified students will now have access to the best engineered business PC on the market. Gaining ThinkPad University status means that AUT University is recognised by Asia Pacific’s number one PC company as an organisation that works collaboratively with partners, students and employers to invest in New Zealand’s future economy.”

Students will be awarded the scholarships by AUT on the basis of excellent academic achievement and ongoing commitment to attaining a post-graduate qualification.

Applications open on 30 October 2007, giving students until 30 November 2007 to apply for the 2008 academic year scholarship programme.
