New Trade to Tertiary Scholarship Announced

Ralph Springett, President of EXMSS, has put his money where his mouth is by channelling the fees he is paid to attend Massey Council into a new Trade to Tertiary scholarship worth $3,000 per year.

“I have been outspoken on the issue of social responsibility at the Council table and believe that Massey should deliver more benefits and scholarships to support its students,” Mr Springett says, “being socially responsible is part of the greater responsibility of leading educational institutions like Massey. The ‘more’ attitude of the past needs to be replaced with a stronger social conscience  it is time to give back to society.”

The scholarship, which will be available to Massey distance learners, is intended to assist a tradesperson to make the transition into tertiary study, mirroring the path that Ralph has taken. Ideally a tertiary qualified tradesperson will become a leader and advocate for their profession, advancing the interests of those still employed in the industry. Ralph, a former chef, continues to maintain contacts in the hospitality industry while he completes his Bachelor of Arts in English.

Further supporting this initiative Massey University Extramural Students’ Society is proud to announce a new suite of scholarships designed to assist distance learners throughout New Zealand to achieve their educational goals. EXMSS has increased their scholarship fund from $5,000 to $10,000 per annum with scholarships and awards for Maori students, students with impairments and students that are at risk of withdrawing from study.
