Otago Campus For Sale
Otago Polytechnic’s main campus is for sale according signs erected around OP’s campus today.
The signs feature National MPs Bill English and Anne Tolley as the realtors for “National Reality”, offering a government auction of the OP. They were erected last night by students masked as Bill English and Anne Tolley lookalikes.
“Selling off polytechnics is one possible future of some the New Zealand polytechnics if government under-funding of the sector continues.” said OPSA president Meegan Cloughley.
The Government has removed
over $60,000,000 over the next 14 months from the
polytechnic sector. Polytechnic funding has been cut in
several different areas which
will remove significant
funding to all institutions.
“By under-funding the polytechnic sector, National is undermining students’ ability to study to their full potential.” commented UCOL Students’ Association president, Jo Hymers.
Student leaders are calling on the government to recognise the role that polytechnics play in providing the country with the necessary skills and qualifications.
