Ten thousand dollars worth of accommodation scholarships offered to Year 13 students for 2012
UC Accommodation Student Village (UCA), in
Christchurch, has given year 13 high school students the
opportunity to apply for accommodation scholarships for the
2012 academic year.
In September
UCA offered year 13 students from its top 30 feeder high
schools the opportunity to receive one of ten $1000
accommodation scholarships for the 2012 academic year. UCA
is comprised of the well-established University Hall and
Sonoda Campuses as well as the independent flatting
community of Ilam Apartments. UCA is managed by Campus
Living Villages which provide more than four thousand
students in New Zealand with accommodation and positive
experiences.
UCA prides itself on its Live, Learn, Grow programme which is focused on supporting young people during a key stage of their development by creating environments where they can live, learn and grow. The unique programme attracts students from across New Zealand each year and is unique to Campus Living Villages (CLV) who manage UCA.
Marketing Manager Lucy Allen-King said that there had been overwhelming response to the offer and that UCA had received a pleasing number of high-calibre applications from students.
The scholarship initiative was designed to encourage high schools to promote UCA as an accommodation option for students. The building and facilities at UCA have been unaffected and remained open throughout the earthquakes and subsequent aftershocks and life is very much business as usual.
“We’ve had to adapt to our students needs and we’ve enhanced much of our village in order to ‘Grow’ with our residents,” said Ms Allen-King. “We are all much stronger because of the challenges we’ve faced. We’ve grown even closer to our residents. We are one community.”
“It’s exciting times at UCA,” says UCA Director of Operations, Nik Webb-Shephard. ”The changing city of Christchurch will be a vibrant place to live and study in the coming years and the team at UCA are aiming to equip their residents with the skills to be a part of this.”
UCA offers a busy social calendar for its residents through their residential life program (Live, Learn, Grow). Residential Life Coordinator Grace Considine’s highlights for the past year include the O-week carnival, the annual UCA star ball and the range of themed evenings such as the Las Vegas night. “There is always something to do for our students and ample opportunity to meet new people and create new friendships.” UCA’s Live, Learn, Grow programme is already in the planning stages for 2012 and prospective students at University Hall, Sonoda and the Ilam Apartments definitely have a lot to look forward to.
The successful applicants of the accommodation scholarships will be notified on 1 November 2011.
