Youngest teachers in Rotorua Schools - Roots of Empathy
The youngest teachers in Rotorua Schools - Roots of Empathy baby celebration
16 November 2011
The annual Roots of Empathy Baby Celebrations will take place in November, providing an opportunity for news media and others to learn more about Roots of Empathy and meet the parents and babies who are the stars of the school programme.
Roots of Empathy is an evidence-based programme, proven to increase social and emotional competency. This programme works well to reduce bullying in schools.
The classes participate in 27 sessions, involving the participation of the parent and baby as the teachers for 9 of those sessions. Children learn to observe and interpret the baby's communication, thereby building empathy with others.
In 2011, Barnardos has run 72 programmes, involving approximately 2000 children.
The Roots of Empathy Baby Celebrations are about acknowledging the babies who have inspired the children throughout the year.
