Dux of Huntly College announced

Esther Welch was awarded the title of Dux of Huntly College 2011 at the recently held High Achievers Assembly that celebrated the school’s top scholars. Unlike other schools Huntly College awards its top academic prizes following confirmation of exam marks to ensure the dux is the school's top student by way of their results.

The Dux Award, which is sponsored by Solid Energy, was presented at a small private function that was attended by parents and whanau of the award recipients, the Chair and members of the Board of Trustees, the Waikato District Mayor and representatives of the major sponsors. Esther also received The Huntly Jewellers Cup for being Top Year 12 student, the Huntly College McKenzie Trophy for excellence in Mathematics, and the Most Excellent Musician’s Cup for achieving excellence in her chosen instrument.

Esther achieved NCEA Level 3 endorsed with Merit and University Entrance in 2011 as a Year 12 student. Her talent and dedication to art has also earned her a Course Endorsement with Merit for NCEA Level 3 Art.

Solid Energy supports a range of educational and youth development initiatives within its communities across New Zealand.
