Celebrating our 'everyday champions' for World Teachers' Day
Across our country's classrooms and ECE centres, teachers inspire children and young people to explore, discover and learn something new every day. We call these teachers 'everyday champions'.
"For World Teachers' Day this year (26 October), the Teachers Council is running the 'everyday champions' competition to celebrate the knowledge, expertise and passion of New Zealand's largest profession of 100,000 teachers," said Dr Peter Lind, Director of the Teachers Council.
"We're encouraging students and parents to submit a video or story illustration to tell us how their teacher has given them, or their children, a spark for learning and set them up for a brighter future."
Tributes from students and parents interviewed in our
'everyday champions' video spoke of the
passion teachers have for making learning exciting and their
role in guiding a student's quest for knowledge.
"Teachers shape the future of our children and young
people by encouraging them to have enquiring minds,
resilience, and confidence to be the best they can
be.
"World Teachers' Day provides an opportunity to
celebrate and recognise the complex work of our teachers.
Every day they balance the academic, social and emotional
needs of students to bring out the best in each and every
one of them," said Dr Lind.
There are amazing prizes up for grabs, including an incredible technology package sponsored by Samsung for one lucky school or ECE service, NZ mystery weekends for teachers sponsored by the Teachers Council and smartphones sponsored by Telecom.
