Iwi Education Authority Head Endorses Publication of
National Standard Results
The publication of National Standard results
for public consumption has been given the thumbs up by Dr
Toby Curtis leader of the recently established Iwi Education
Authority Te Maru o Nga Kura-a-Iwi o Aotearoa.
“Iwi want an education system that is maximally transparent and accountable features which have been sadly lacking in our schooling system with the effect that too many of our schools have gotten away with mediocre and downright negligent performance for too long in terms of our tamariki mokopuna.”
“We are no longer going to stand by as passive onlookers and let the excusemongers and blame merchants have their way anymore.”
“The pathetically lame rationale for poor performance because children do not having equal opportunity and so on is absolute rubbish!”
“I know Decile 1 Kura who are outstripping the pack including Decile 10 schools in terms of literacy, numeracy and other results so what’s that about. Excellent teaching and treating Maori Children as Maori with potential and not this deficit nonsense which wound and cripple us.”
“We are totally
supportive of National Standards/Nga Whanaketanga and the
publishing of results because it sheds light for us on what
is actually happening in schools. The challenge for schools
is not to run and hide but face up to it and get on with the
job they are paid to do!”
