Scots College Welcomes New Deputy Principal

Scots College Welcomes New Deputy Principal
Scots College in Strathmore has appointed Mr Dave Scott to the position of Middle School Deputy Principal. Currently the Director of Boarding at Scotch College Adelaide in South Australia, Mr Scott will commence his new position in January next year and is looking forward returning to New Zealand with his two children and Timaru-born wife.

An experienced and innovative educator, Mr Scott is particularly passionate about the learning and well being of young people. He has a proven track record of providing leadership and excellence in teaching and pastoral care within independent schools in the UK, New Zealand and Australia and has recently completed a postgraduate diploma in Educational Leadership through the University of Canterbury in Christchurch.

"I believe in using a strengths-based approach when working with students, focusing on what is right with them, acknowledging their abilities and taking an interest in their aspirations. I also firmly believe that there is a close link between student wellbeing and academic performance and that healthy and happy students are more likely to achieve higher academic results, complete school, and engage positively in society".

Dave is a passionate believer in the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle in achieving personal, social and academic success, and actively promotes this philosophy in his work and by example. Dave holds a first class honours degree in Sports Science and has previously been a First XV coach and led tours to South Africa, France, Australia and Ireland. In 2012 he completed the feat of running 7 marathons in 7 Australian cities in 7 consecutive days and raised over $25,000 for indigenous education and the Yalari organisation. This achievement was featured on Channel 7 News and in several magazines and newspapers in Australia.

Scots College Headmaster Graeme Yule believes Mr Scott’s appointment will greatly benefit the College and particularly its Middle School students.

“We are truly delighted to have an educator of Dave’s calibre join the College. Dave brings a wide and varied co-curricular involvement and a commitment to pastoral care and quality education. In his 3 years at Scotch College as Boarding Director, his contribution was recognised and he received the 2012 Australian Boarding Schools Association Premier Leadership Award. His passion and commitment to service and citizenship marry well with the College’s values” says Yule.

Dave is thrilled to be coming back to New Zealand to work at Scots College, "It is a real privilege to be able to join such a great school and I am really looking forward to starting in 2014 and being part of the school and community".
