Umere proposes a 4 Point Plan for Kohanga Reo
On the eve of the national meeting of Kohanga Reo this Thursday at Turangawaewae, Maori language group Umere has developed a 4 Point Plan for the consideration of the kohanga reo movement.
The 4 Point Plan aims to secure the future for the movement by taking urgent action on issues that the current position holders are not addressing.
Umere Four Point Plan for Kōhanga
Reo
1. That the TPO liquidate its assets and use
this pūtea to support a 2 year building programme within
the movement. If required, the head office should also be
liquidated to meet the building needs of local
kōhanga.
2. That the board receive 50% new membership,
and that the constitution be altered so that membership on
the board is not for life.
3. That kōhanga move to a
living wage payment structure.
4. That a stronger
qualifications and career pathway be developed by Te
Kōhanga
Reo.
