University must honour student concerns about department disestablishment
The University of Otago must listen to its students’ concerns about the proposal to axe its Design course, Design Students spokespeople Zac Newton and Ben Alder say.
“We are outraged the university has given such a short timeframe for a consultation, especially given the consequences will directly affect nearly 60 full time students and staff.
“We will be placing a submission this afternoon to the Pro Vice Chancellor, Sciences, Professor Keith Hunter to outline the benefits of the Design department to the University of Otago, the wider Dunedin community and industry.
“The students also plan to seek a review of the consultation and proposal process and will be raising significant concerns with the university.
“There will be further action from the affected students in the following week to raise awareness on campus,” says Zac Newton.
