Affordable art exhibition returns bigger and better

Affordable art exhibition returns – bigger and better than ever!

The Napier Girls’ High School annual Affordable Art Exhibition will take place again next month, with even more artists and affordable artwork on show.

The fundraiser, to be held on 11, 12 and 13 March, gives art lovers the opportunity to view and purchase over 250 pieces of artwork created by more than 60 professional artists from throughout New Zealand, as well as art by Napier Girls’ High School students and teachers.

With every piece of artwork priced at $1,000 or less, the exhibition provides a chance to purchase quality art at very affordable prices.

Local artist Heather Wilson and a group of parents of Napier Girls’ students are the driving force behind the community event, which raised $20,000 for the school last year.

“Our goal is to make the 2016 exhibition even better, with more artists involved, more art on offer and other exciting additions to the event including a pop-up café and a spot prize giveaway on the opening evening,” says Heather.

Visitors can experience an exciting range of creative mediums, from paintings, prints and photography to ceramics, mixed media, sculpture and screen prints produced by many of the country’s most talented and respected artists whose work is sought after locally, nationally and internationally.

The Affordable Art Exhibition will be launched with a ticketed Opening Night event (Friday) followed by a two-day exhibition (Saturday and Sunday), with entry by gold coin donation. Also on offer is a raffle, with first, second and third prizes donated by local artists Mauricio Benega, Justin Kite and Tony Harrington, collectively valued at over $2,000. A vibrant ‘spot prize’ painting, created by Heather Wilson, will be given away at the launch.

The funds raised from this year’s Affordable Art Exhibition will be used to help students make well-informed choices as they move from Napier Girls’ High School into tertiary education and careers.

Heather Wilson says the exhibition provides students with practical ‘behind-the-scenes’ insight into how a successful event is run.

“While it is an entertaining way to raise money for the school’s transition to work and study programmes, the fundraiser also allows the girls to gain ‘hands-on’ experience of a large, creative community event.”

Tickets to the Opening Night cost $30 per person and include drinks, canapés by award-winning chef Terry Lowe, a chance to meet the artists involved and the first opportunity to purchase art.

Tickets are available from the Napier Girls’ High School office or by emailing nghsartexhib@gmail.com
