Oceania Dairy Scholarship Award Recipient Announced

A passion for environmental sustainability, the dairy industry and local community have landed Waimate High School student Tayne Macmillan the Oceania Dairy Scholarship Award.

Macmillan will receive an annual payment of $3,000 for up to three years to support his studies towards a Bachelor of Science degree at Otago University later this year.

“The Oceania Dairy Scholarship Award is about encouraging and supporting professionals of the future,” said Roger Usmar, Oceania Dairy General Manager.

“There was a high level of interest this year and we were impressed with the high calibre of applicants.”

“Tayne’s application stood out from the rest and he has both the academic results and ambition to become a leader in his field.”

“We were particularly impressed by his values and attitude in relation to achieving a sustainable future for the dairy industry.”

Macmillan, a former Head Boy and honorary member of the Rotary organisation, was thrilled to be selected and confirmed the $3000 would be of huge value for his studies this year.

In his application, Macmillan said he believed maintaining New Zealand’s image can play an influential role in the country’s export success and hoped his study would help find ways to minimise environmental effects of the dairy industry.

“The scholarship will provide me with major financial support, as I am funding my study through holiday work and a student loan,” said Macmillan.

“The scholarship will also assist the direction which I am to take my study, providing me with valuable connections into one of New Zealand’s largest sectors.”

Macmillan will also have the opportunity for paid work experience with Oceania Dairy during study breaks.
