Clifton Terrace Model School - 2 + 4 kW

Clifton Terrace Model School - 2 + 4 kW

The first solar array at Clifton Terrace Model School was installed in March 2009 (consisting of 12 x 170 Watt photovoltaic panels) giving a total capacity of slightly over 2 kilowatts. In April 2014 the second solar array was installed (16 x 250 Watt panels giving a total capacity of 4 kilowatts), double the capacity of the 2009 array.

On our quest for the Schoolgen Gold Award we have recently changed all of our fluorescent lightbulbs in the school (over 90 bulbs!) to LED lightbulbs to be more energy efficient. We are keen to see the improvements this makes within our school. We have also connected with a school in Taranaki and invited them to our Green Day Celebration to share about our energy learning and to hear about their programme. We are frequently using the Solar Node graphs to see the live data about our solar panels and also what we use from the Grid - which is amazing!

This graph below shows live solar generation from both the 2kW and 4kW solar arrays that Genesis energy has given to the school as well as how much electricity the school is using from the Grid. To see the other trial school in Wellington visit their Schoolgen profile page.
