Morningside & Mt Albert Whānau Call Community To Action Against ECE Cuts
Auckland, NZ.
The Whānau of Morningside Kindergarten are inviting their local community to stand together in a peaceful demonstration on Wednesday 6 August at 8:45 am and 2:45 pm on the corner of Sainsbury Rd and Taylors Rd, Mt Albert.
This family-friendly protest is part of a nationwide day of action opposing the Government’s proposed funding cuts to early childhood education. These cuts threaten not only teacher jobs, but the quality and accessibility of education for our youngest tamariki.
“Studies prove the first five years of a child's development are the most formative years. Qualified teachers mean quality education. If the government goes ahead with allowing unqualified teachers to teach in Kindergartens, it will hurt our kids, our kaiako, and our future.” says Kenah Trusewich, a parent involved in the demonstration.
The event invites families, neighbours, and supporters to come together with signs, chants, and community spirit to show the strength of local opposition.
Attendees are encouraged to dress in black to stand in solidarity with educators across city.
We want to send a clear message: hands off our kindy. Early childhood education is not a luxury - it’s a right.
