Union Unequivocally Opposes Attacks On Iran

Te Hautū Kahurangi | Tertiary Education Union (TEU) unequivocally opposes illegal wars and acts of aggression because peace is union business.

“We condemn the attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran that breach international law. Escalating military conflict places civilians at grave risk and destabilises the entire region,” says Garrick Cooper, Te Tumu Wakarae Māori | National Co-President Māori at TEU.

“We are particularly appalled by attacks on educational institutions and the killing of over 150 children at a girl’s school in southern Iran during the initial US strikes. Children, students, schools, universities, and places of learning must never be targets of war. The loss of innocent lives, especially children, is an affront to our shared humanity.”

Ti Lamusse, Te Tumu Whakarae Tiriti | National Co-President Tiriti, says that the TEU is committed to justice, democracy, and the rule of law.

“We believe all nations must uphold international agreements and institutions rather than erode them. The use of military force outside international law undermines the fragile system of global norms designed to protect peace, sovereignty, and human life.

This is why our union is calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities, respect for international law, and renewed commitment to diplomacy, dialogue, and peace.”
