NEW CHAIR FOR FAMILY LAW SECTION
Auckland Queen's Counsel Dr John Priestley has been elected the new Chairperson of the Family Law Section. The New Zealand Law Society section represents the interests of family lawyers and Dr Priestley will be their main spokesperson on family law issues.
Dr Priestley is a graduate of Auckland University, Cambridge University and the University of Virginia where he completed his doctorate, researching matrimonial property systems.
After developing a family law practice with an Auckland firm, Dr Priestley became a barrister in 1983 and was appointed a Queen's Counsel in 1994, specialising in family law. He has previously served on the New Zealand Law Society's Family Law Committee and has been a member of the Family Law Section Executive since the section was established in December 1997.
