2000 road toll climbs to 465

The official 2000 Road Toll has now risen to 465 following the deaths of three people involved in crashes in December.

These people are included in the 2000 Road Toll because their deaths occurred within 30 days of the crash.

This also means the 2000/2001 Holiday Road Toll has risen by two to 19 as two crashes fell within the holiday road toll period which began at 1600 on Friday 22 December 2000.

The fatalities included:

 A 67 year old male driver involved in a crash on State Highway 29 on 24 December. He died in hospital on 3 January.

 A 43 year old female driver involved in a crash in the Auckland Domain on 30 December. The driver died in hospital on 4 January.

 A 61 year old male driver involved in a crash on 10 December in the Waikato region. He died in hospital on 5 January.

At 465 the 2000 toll remains the lowest since 1964, when 428 were killed.
