Vincentian Home and Hospital - Racial Discrimination Claim

Agreement to erect a suite of posters in a variety of languages containing relevant health and safety messages has been reached between the Vincentian Home and Hospital and Occupational Safety and Health officials.

A supply of posters produced by Occupational Safety and Health in a variety of languages will be provided and displayed for staff with the objective of meeting the needs of all the institution's multicultural workforce.

This team includes; Maori, Philippine, Indian, Pacific Island and European.

Liz Wall, the Vincentian Home and Hospital manager said "We intend to place one of each of these posters on a notice board so that all staff members can read and understand the health and safety messages that these posters are communicating.

"We are advised by Occupational Safety and Health that the A5 foldout versions of each language they are providing are relevant, comprehensive and an appropriate size for the space available.

"As stated before, we believe this issue was raised as part of a wider agenda related to the forthcoming wage talks.

"We trust that meeting and exceeding union demands with regard to the posters will mean that the matter will be laid to rest," Liz Wall said.
